Original and Custom Jewelry Design and 3D Modeling.

Freelance artist and designer, Monika Bachmann uses a sophisticated 3D surface modeling program to design products and generate data for rapid prototyping output. A wax-like (polymer) model can be built from this data and used for direct or investment casting.

Original as well as custom jewelry designs in the form of 3d computer models (.3dm) are offered to manufacturers, service bureaus and jewelry/gift stores looking to include new and unique product lines, enhance existing ones or meet specific customer requirements.

Many designs can be readied for precious metals casting using CAID technology.  Just as a carver cuts and shapes a piece of wax, so I must manipulate lines and curves to create the geometry to generate surfaces and shapes. Starting with your concept, design or sketch, a surface modeling software is used to electronically “sculpt” your piece in virtual 3D.   Everything is built by hand (so to speak!). The only design constraints are those required by casting, finishing, settings and other production considerations.

One of the advantages of the technology is that changes can be made during the design phase, size is mostly irrelevant and there is no penalty for complexity . Therefore once a pin or pendant is done, the same design can be incorporated into earrings & rings. Unlike traditional wax models, the design is electronic and never lost, forever available to be used again, or modified to be incorporated into a new design.

Besides creating original designs, I also work with other designers to model their concepts and designs. If you are considering new work and would like to use this approach, please keep this technology in mind. In any case I hope this information and website is useful to you.
